Identify Your Average
Just like the fish doesn't know it's wet until it comes out of the water, we don't know our current environment is holding us back until we step out of it. One person cannot significantly influence the average of a group. When everyone moves ahead a little bit then the average goes up quickly, but when one person moves way ahead the average barely moves at all. As humans we have a tendency to slide toward the average because it's easy and comfortable, we know what it feels like and we're not afraid of it. That's because we are already in the shape of the environment we grew up in, like this pumpkin. Do you need a change to be your best self and have your best business?
Learn from Those Ahead of You
The Bible tells us in Proverbs 15:22, "Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed." Similar sayings can be found in Proverbs 11:14, 20:18, and 24:6. Basically, if you want to achieve your full potential, you're going to want advisers, coaches and mentors around to help. You're going to want advice from someone who has experience in your area. There are millions of people out there just waiting to tell their stories; the good and the bad. Go find them! And don't forget to ask God for wisdom, as he is the source of it!
The Way Forward ->
If you're reading this thinking "this doesn't apply to me, I'm not in business", you're sadly mistaken. These concepts apply to life. Whether you work for yourself or for someone else, you are still responsible for shaping your environment and yourself. Putting the responsibility on anyone else is a cop-out. As you find a mentor/coach who's ahead of you, take time to mentor someone who's behind you. If you've found the door to success, be humble enough to hold it open so that others can follow you through it.
