Think BIG, BOLD and CRAZY
Crazy goals are awesome because they stretch you, grow you and help you see you can do more than you thought possible. Things like "sailing across the ocean for the first time", "landing a man on the moon", or "flying the first airplane"; all of these sounded like crazy ideas when they were proposed but they were all accomplished! We must stretch the limits of our capabilities into the unknown if we ever want to see how far we can grow!
Set SIMPLE, MEASURABLE and ACTIONABLE Plans
So let's take your crazy idea and work backwards. If your plan was to "double sales in 3 years", ask yourself how you're going to increase your sales steadily for 3 years. What strategies can you put in place to support that? Dissect your 3-5 year goals into annual goals.
Now break down those annual goals into monthly ones; here's a neat trick I picked up from High Performance Coach, Brendon Burchard.
- Take out a piece of paper and draw 12 boxes on it (one for each month),
- Write a short description of what you must accomplish by the end of each month
- Establish weekly goals at the beginning of each month to help keep you on track
- Check your progress daily; ask yourself what is distracting you from accomplishing those goals (and don't make excuses!)
The Way Forward->
Be bold and imaginative with your goals. Share them with other people in a resiliently optimistic way and don't worry if they give you weird looks! If people think your ideas are crazy, you're probably on the right track!
Remember that every crazy goal you set should be tied back to your mission statement and vision. Without a sense of purpose, accomplishing those goals will produce little fulfilling progress. Start creating plans for your small (or big) business and go out and crush them! Create plans for your life and crush them! Why sit around in mediocrity?! Why wait for something special to happen to you?! Go out and make something special happen in the world!
