But I'm an MBA...
Passion Is the Fuel of Mastery
My last post was about doing what you love, and if you want to do what you love for a living you're going to have be to really good at it. I mean REALLY good at it, as in better than 75% of the crowd who is already doing it. Once you've mastered your subject, you become part of an elite group of individuals in your industry. When you reach the level of "Master", people will pay you for your expertise, for your insight and even your opinion.
How to Become a Master
- Find someone who has mastered what you want to do and learn from them. Get a mentor or coach.
- Work at it every day. Practice, learn, reflect, rinse and repeat.
- Keep working at it. After a few years of doing it every day you will be really good at it.
- Keep working at it. After many years of doing it every day you will truly master it.
It helps me to remember Colossians 3:23-24, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving." Everything we do goes with or against that statement. Having purpose bigger than yourself will make mastering something a whole lot easier. If you need motivation to get started, check out Jon Acuff's book "Start". The subtitle says it all, "punch fear in the face"!
